When you already have a great light, it can be hard to improve on it. Other than adding more lumens, of course. As the light output arms race continues, Niterider has once again increased the output of their self contained Lumina Boost series with three new lights.

Now offered in the OLED 1100 Boost, the 1100 Boost, and the 900 Boost, the lights are all a step up from the previous OLED 950 Boost, 950 Boost, and 750 Boost. The main difference between the two 1100 models is the addition of an OLED screen that shows light mode, battery life, etc, though both have up to 18h run time and weigh in at 172g. The 900 cranks up the light to almost 26hs depending on the mode, and charges a bit faster too. All three lights have a quick charge mode with a 1amp charger, and a normal charge time that is about double with a 500ma charger. Pricing is set at $149.99 for the OLED 1100 Boost, $99.99 for the 1100 Boost, and $79.99 for the 900 Boost.

For a bonus little feature thrown in, the lights now have a walk mode which drops the lumens down to 70 or 45 depending on the model for the longest run time – which should be good for walking the dog at night, using at camp, etc.

While we’re on the subject of lights getting more powerful, the new Sabre now checks in at 80 lumens – up from 50. While far from their brightest tail light, the Sabre is their lightest by far at just 28g in weight. Run time ranges from 1:30 – 10:30hrs depending on the mode, and the Li-Po battery is micro USB rechargeable with a $29.99 price tag.

Apparently, the Lumina Photo Pack isn’t super new, but it was news to us. The kit includes three different mounts for the bottom of your Lumina series light that will work with a camera’s Hot Shoe mount, a tripod/magnetic mount, as well as a simple clip for hooking to your belt, pocket, ect. There’s also an included diffuser lens which could be used for lighting up the scene for a photo though it’s not compatible with the Lumina Micro. The whole kit sells for $19.99 and could help you get more use out of the lights you already own.

I’ve been using these lights for years. They work well but I have never even come close to them working anywhere near their advertised run times. 1 1/2 hours on high (advertised) – 1 hour (actual). Becomes an issue when your light suddently dies in the dark….

Curious if they’ve addressed the waterproofing on the OLED series. First time in LIGHT rain and my screen was dead. They fixed it under warranty but I had pay shipping on a 2 month old light with very little use.

With the original 2017 Lumina Boost series of lights Boost mode (Boost mode highest lumen output) runs for 40 minutes. For NiteRider’s current 2018 catalog the Boost mode run time was increased to 1h. There is also a low, medium, and high mode on all the Lumina Boost series of lights. On the high mode the light will run for 1:30h.

If you don’t feel your light is hitting it’s factory run times please contact NiteRider customer support. NR can be contacted Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm PST at (800) 466-8366 ext 4. If email works better for you please email us at info@niterider.com. Here is a link to info@niterider.com. https://www.niterider.com/niterider-contact/

What happened to the planned batteries with USB port to power devices on rides?

I’ll echo ckorus’ comment. I too have been using NR for years. They work extremely well and have great patterns, don’t get hot, take a beating…but the run times on high are shorter than advertised. Add a few years to the battery and forget it, mine won’t run at a medium setting for half the time mentioned—BUT, I’m learning that’s due to the age of the battery. It’s frustrating though, having to replace a $150+ battery every other year on a $350 light system. What about self-contained batteries like those in the smaller systems, do you just toss the whole light after a couple of years?

This is about the self contained Lumina series. Replacement batteries are on the NR website for ~$30.

IME, at mid power 2+ hour rides (full power for some downhills), I’ve never run out of power.

I have an older Lumina 650 and have had an excellent experience with it. It’s been super durable and I haven’t noticed any decrease in Battey life. The only complaint I have is the mount, there is a small amount of play in the rail system and the dang thing rattles and makes a racket. I nearly replaced it with a Bontrager ion just because the constant rattle can be irritating. My friend has a larger NiteRider lamp and it was so irritating that we used silicone adhesive to get rid of the rattle. Personally, I just use the light when necessary and otherwise take it off the mount and keep it in my bag.

I used a small amount of painter’s tape to silence the rattle on my mount. It works great

I just bought Bontrager IoN 800 and came with softmount. The noise is unbearable and now im considering buying hardmount . But work as advertised 1.5 hrs on hight setting.

Instead of adding more unnecessary lumens to the headlights, they should follow Portland Design Works in designing headlight that does not glare other road users. I have been using the Pathfinder for several days and I am very happy with it.

I also have good experiences with the Lumina series of lights. However, I also make sure to carry a 2nd light in my jersey pocket at all times since you just never know when one will go dark and you need to swap it out. Biggest bang for the buck as far as I’m concerned. I have a 950 Boost, 650, 350 and 200 (using the smallest two on my helmet for late night singletrack riding.)

Dear NR,
Please make a Lumina that can run 2hr. + on 800-900 lumens. And a solid GoPro mount would be nice too.
Thanks,
RR

If you live in San Diego you can take your NR light to their factory off Aero Drive. They’ve fixed lights for me a few times for cheap- and have even thrown in extra mounts. I was surprised to find out they actually make their stuff here- and do repairs. The customer service is great- even though my light is several years old- they took really good care of me showed they valued my patronage. In a world of disposable products, it feels good to spend money on something that can be maintained and supported through many years of service.

try educating the people that use off road very bright lights in urban areas blinding on coming traffic…
the fallacy that overly bright headlights make one safer is a dangerous mistake that has caused confrontations and made people dislike bicycle riders… the entitled demeanor of some riders is just
stupid…

We love the Lumina series of lights. I started with a 550, then gave that to my father, and now have a 750. Doing a ton of night riding in the winter months on and off road. The run times have been slightly longer than advertised on my lights actually.

Wish they would make a lumina-shaped camera that fits in a lumina mount. Also I second the comment about making the light a possible usb charger when not in use. All USB lights should do this!

Been using lumina lights (day and night) for commuting 7000+ miles per year for the last 4+ years and have been quite happy with their performance and niteriders customer service.

The taillights don’t say lumen output per setting? Don’t look like it’s the same output for each mode.
How many lumens?
