The result is a more balanced XC & Marathon tire, bordering on a light trail tire – what Onza describes as the combination of “both the ferocity of a wolf and the reliability of your neighbor’s dog“.
Onza Canis fast modern XC mountain bike tire
The update to the canine-themed Onza XC tire, the redesigned Canis feels more capable than ever, edging closer to the trail & all-mountain Porcupine and even the enduro & DH Porcupine RC. It’s taken relatively subtle updates to there, though.
Redesigned damped V-shape centerline blocks for a combo of lower rolling resistance but better braking. A new tiny nub in the transition zone to make for more consistent cornering with improved grip. And tweaked shaping & siping for the buttressed shoulder knobs for improved cornering support.
Tech details
The new Onza Canis is a light and fast XC all-rounder, with a slightly wider but not-too-wide 2.3″ crown designed for 28-35mm internal rims, a versatile single-ply 60tpi casing, and a medium hardness dual-compound rubber composition – softer 45a durometer shoulders and faster, longer-wearing 60a center tread. Claimed weight for the Kevlar-bead foldable, tubeless-ready Canis is between 780g with a tanwall or 800g in all black.
Onza Canis – Pricing, options & availability
The new Canis comes only in one size and one 60tpi casing, what Onza thinks is the sweet spot of modern XC & marathon riding. The moderately wide 29″ x 2.3″ Canis is available though, in either a natural tan Skinwall or all Black casings. The new XC tire is available now for 65€ from Onza dealers.
And we’ve been teased that another new XC tire will be coming soon this spring… hint: We think it will be a bigger, badder refresh of the lighter and even faster dry-conditions Svelt.
