Pas Normal Mechanism Pro Speedsuit aero road bike skinsuit
The recently introduced Mechanism Pro lineup already took Pas Normal road cycling kit to another level this past spring, based around all-new hi-tech proprietary stretch-woven synthetic fabrics that were carefully optimized for fit, structure & aerodynamics. Having ridden in them on the road, track, and for gravel racing since, they are undeniably the lightest & best wicking kit I have, and on par with being the most comfortable with a second-skin-like fit. It really was a huge step up in performance for Pas Normal in my opinion.
Now, Pas Normal Mechanism Pro adds an aero road skinsuit called the Speedsuit, that effectively stitches together their ultralight Mechanism Pro Jersey to the Mechanism Pro Shorts without the need for a set of extraneous bib straps. You get the same exact aerodynamically-optimized and lightly compressive 4-way stretch fabrics in all the same spots, plus the same 3-pocket layout plus internal radio pocket, silicone-free grippers, and the same light 4-layer foam chamois
Curiously, Pas Normal doesn’t seem to make a weight claim, but based on my regular Mechanism Pro kit, I would assume that a size Large skinsuit will be less than 200g, which is pretty wild if you think about it.
The new made-in-Portugal Pas Normal Mechanism Pro Speedsuit sells for 455€ in a wide range of sizes – which is of course a lot of money. But as is often the case with top-level skinsuits, the Speedsuit is actually quite the relative bargain if you were already planning on buy a separate black jersey & bib shorts which combined would set you back 520€.
T.K.O. Disorder limited edition versions of Mechanism Pro road cycling kit
I have to admit that I was never really interested in past versions of Pas Normal Studios’ T.K.O. Disorder limited editions. Calling it their ‘Signature Label’, TKO was simply fashion-focused limited edition versions of what for the most part were pretty run-of-the-mill jerseys and shorts. Sure, if you were looking for more unique colors or patterns in your cycling kit, Pas Normal TKO was fine, but it seemed to lack the level of unique technical performance I expect from top-tier cycling clothing. Well, that has changed now that TKO uses the new Mechanism Pro line-up as the basis for its limited editions.
Now you can get the great ultralight Mechanism Pro jersey in wild red-ish, blue & green squiggly patterns for just a few bucks more than the simple solid colors at 235€ (my L weighs just 68g!) Or you can get a dark grey pair of Mechanism Pro bibs with giant matching TKO graphics for 315€. Or the white Mechanism Pro mesh baselayer for 90€ with TKO Disorder logos.
But most importantly in my mind, you can also get the Mechanism Pro Zipless Jersey for 215€ in a new red beehive pattern. That one stands out in my mind because this incredibly light open mesh jersey (my Large weighs 87g) works so well for keeping me from overheating on especially hot days, but since it is really just a transparent mesh, combining the darker color with its irregular pattern offers a bit of a camouflaging effect, helping hide the fact that you are just cycling in a mesh top. I ride in the olive green Earth version of this mesh jersey, and it admittedly doesn’t leave much to the imagination, nor is it the most flattering jersey I own. But I tried this TKO version, and it does much better in the modesty department.
