Polar’s V800 sports watch has been updated to see Android app alerts on screen and track open water swim workouts via GPS.
Already syncing with iOS apps to provide call and text alerts, among other things, the V800 now does the same for Android users. Update the watch through Polar Flow and get your smartphone app current and you’ll be able to preview emails and text messages, see calendar events and even social feed notifications – if you really want to, that is…it’s up to you to pick which things you want to see on the watch. Each time an alert passes to the watch, it’ll vibrate quickly to let you know.
From a performance standpoint, triathletes now have two more reasons to love the watch. In a fairly quiet running change since it launched last year, the V800 added a charging port cover. Our test unit and another we’ve seen both suffered from water damage at the battery, causing the case to deform and lose its ability to stay connected to the charger. Polar has added a cover that makes it more waterproof. Second, it’s now able to track open water swims, capturing swim distance, time and pace, stroke rate, heart rate, and calories, then displaying all that data in Flow afterward.
