We first spotted these at the Tour de France, with plenty of photos but fewer confirmed specs. After spending a few days riding these samples around Philly and displaying them on Pratt’s custom steel bikes at the expo, Hunt’s shared some early specs with us, too.
The upcoming Hunt 32 UD Carbon Spoke wheels will come in around 1200g for the set. They’re a 32mm deep hookless carbon rim based on their Aerodynamicist profiles, which we saw much deeper prototypes of at Eurobike.
Spokes are UD Carbon, and the rims will be 25mm wide externally. Internal width or recommended/ideal tire widths aren’t announced yet.
According to Hunt’s rep, these “will be our jump back into hookless rim technology. We first launched our 55 Carbon Aero Disc as a hookless road rim a few years ago but moved away since there weren’t as many hookless compatible options at the time. More tire options available today, and with a greater call from our sponsored teams and riders to create a stronger, lighter weight and stiffer wheelset for big days out in the mountains we couldn’t have thought of a better place to use the hookless tech.”
“On top of that, with the UD carbon spokes having a greater Ultimate Tensile Strength than steel spokes, it’s able to compensating for the issue some shallower rim wheelsets have with too much flex and not providing the “reactiveness” some people experience.”
They’ve hinted the official release is coming soon, stay tuned…
