Sometimes we gamble because we can’t fit everything in, but with the Culprit Covert Ops saddle bag tool kit, it’s hard to end up stranded because you’re lacking the correct tool. Designed to fit snugly under your seat, it comes with a complete bit set (2/2.5/3/4/5/6/8/T10/T15/T25/Slot 2/PH 2) and mini socket wrench, bit extender, mini torque wrench, patch kit, chain breaker with spoke tool, tire levers, and CO2 chuck.

On the outside, there’s a separate waterproof pouch to store your tube in, which then gets wrapped into place by the with its own Velcro stretch strap with gel strips to keep it from sliding out. Separate, longer straps secure it to your saddle’s rails. There’s also a sleeve for external storage of a mini pump, but I found that it ended up sticking out a bit more than I liked, so that stayed in my jersey pocket.

Despite the compact (er, standard, really) size, it’s got all of the tools and bits listed above, plus room for your ID, a credit card, cash and two CO2 cartridges. All of which have their own slots and straps to keep them in place. It’s a well conceived design that holds everything tight, so there’s no rattles, and nothing falls out and gets lost when you open it up.

The bonus is the torque wrench. Not only is it smaller than the ratchet-and-click types, it’s also variable up to 10Nm rather than being fixed at a preset torque rating. And it uses any of the same bits as the ratchet. For the price, this even makes a solid way to quickly check things at home if you don’t have a full sized torque wrench.

Culprit is offering this through their Indiegogo campaign, and will ship even if the full campaign (which includes their aero stem/cockpit) isn’t funded, so long as a minimum order quantity is met. If not, there’s no charge and nothing is shipped. Suggested retail for the kit is $100, but you can get it through their crowdfunding offer for $65.

Pretty neat execution. I love the inclusion of a small beam-type torque wrench.

I’m on the fence about the tube storage in a separate bag. Great that it’s protected from any contact from the tools, but won’t it slide off the sandwich of saddle rails and toolkit in rough going?
