kramp-krushers-melon-and-strawberry-energy-chews

Kramp Krusher electrolyte chews kicked things off last year with their Salty Limón flavor that’s so close to a margarita you may find yourself using them to chase the worm. On a ride, they’re amazing, and they seem to do the trick fending off cramps thanks to 310mg of sea salt sourced sodium and 95mg potassium citrate. They’ve also added 150mg calcium lactate, which they say helps boost muscle endurance by providing a ready energy source that assists in glucose availability while potentially reducing lactic acid buildup.

They’ve kept me going on a few rides, they’re delicious, and now they’ve got two new flavors en route. Salty Strawberry and Salty Melon will make their formal debut at Sea Otter. Our mouths are already watering.

Plenty more goodies to keep you pedaling strong below…

pro-bar-variety-packs

ProBar, makers of deliciously dense nutrition bars that double as meals in most instances, have bundled together different types of bars and flavors into new variety packs to make it easier to sample based on type of activity. Or, think of it as a way to try multiple flavors without having to buy a box of each. Prices range from $27 to $36 per box.

Shown above (L to R) are the Ultimate Pack, Endurance Pack and Super Pack. Here’s the descriptions from the PR:

Ultimate 15 Pack – For the PROBAR® fanatic who enjoys a wide range of our products, or for the first time buyer looking to try a bit of everything, we’re thrilled to bring you the Ultimate 15 Pack. Featuring three items from all five PROBAR® product lines, and including top flavors from each line, the Ultimate 15 Pack is perfect for gifts, for stocking your own pantry and for sharing with friends
Everyday Pack – Every day we need fuel. Every day we need delicious, real food choices, and the more convenient, the better. That’s why we’ve created the Everyday Pack, to provide a solution to the problem of unhealthy eating temptations. The Everyday Pack contains all six flavors of PROBAR bite® and six top flavors of PROBAR Meal®.
Endurance Pack – Endurance athletes need fuel sources for before, during and after activity, and PROBAR® wants to make fueling more convenient than ever. Our Endurance Pack addresses the needs and demands of endurance athletes everywhere, and features four items from our three activity-based product lines: BOLT organic energy chews, FUEL energy bars, and BASE protein bars.
Super Pack – the Super Pack highlights our bars with green blends and superfood ingredients such as flax, chia, acai, almonds and more. That makes this collection a great source of nutrition, with a generous dose of vitamins and minerals, and whole lot of deliciousness.

clean-energy-patch-caffeine-dermal-patch

Clean Energy Patch is the latest way to get your caffeine fix. Rather than chug down an overly sweet, carbonated energy drink that’s full of other things that may cause gastrointestinal, um, discomfort (for you and possibly those around you), this patch uses kinesiology tape to place absorbable caffeine, guarana and cacao directly on the skin. They say the buzz lasts for a full eight hours with no side effects, just stick anywhere you’re relatively hair-free…which shouldn’t be a problem with this crowd. Prices range from $9.99 for a 3-pack up to $72 for a 48-pack.

We covered these in detail at Winter PressCamp, but heck, any chance to post squeezable pizza is a chance we’ll take. The news? Clif Bar’s new Energy Food “gels” are now shipping, giving you an even more portable meal than those ProBars, complete with fat and protein in the two larger ones to help provide a bit of satiety without the fullness or bloating solid foods might cause during more intense efforts. We just received a few samples of these and are looking forward to the next snow-free big day out to give ’em a whirl.

I came to leave a “Salty Strawberry” comment, but satisFACTORYrider beat me to it.

Umm, cramps are awful and all, but sometimes the cure is worse. I will say “Margarita” flavor shot blocks from Clif worked well and the extra sodium seemed to work there.

Coincidentally, I just read that no studies have shown salt to help prevent cramps[0].

Kramp Krushers are by far the worst thing I’ve ever tried to eat at Interbike. I spit it out immediately.
