SEA OTTER CLASSIC 2010Felt apparently had a super-top-secret new full suspension bike hiding somewhere in Monterey, but it wasn’t in the trailer when we stopped by, so we had to “settle” for this shiny, chromed Brougham fixed gear / single speed bike.

The Brougham model debuted last year, but the chromed version is a late edition that had its first public showing at Sea Otter Classic.  You can get complete bikes in with a clear gloss showing the raw steel or gloss black for $499, and this chrome version is $549.

Keeping with the no-label look desired by cool kids everywhere, Felt’s house-brand aluminum stem, fork, bar and seatpost are matched with a white Felt Urban Classic saddle with riveted cover, and all are lacking any conspicuous branding.  The fork’s track-specific design has a very nice white painted crown, and the steerer and legs are Chromoly.

The frame is custom butted 4130 TIG welded Cr-Mo tubes, and the seatstays are butted and tapered with machined steel dropouts.

Wheels have Felt hubs and 30mm deep V-shaped rims with machined brake track laced with stainless steel spokes.  The rear hub is threaded on the other side, so you can flip-flop it and run it fixed or as a single speed.  The brakes, should you choose to keep them, are Tektro dual-pivot calipers with stainless hardware.

The Brougham is available in 51, 54, 56, 58 and 61cm sizes.

I saw this bike yesterday at a shop. I’ve never fallen in love with a bike before. It’s beautiful. I want it!

I work at a bike shop and built one of these today. The frame is nice and the bike looks very cool, but the components suck. Wheels and crank need upgrades. Getting it, cheeper than a steamroller.
