2012 Specialized Shiv TT triathlon bike spy shot from Kona Ironman world championships

Funny thing, I’m here in France for Roc d’Azur and talking to the Specialized guys when they say “hey, we’ll have something new launching in Kona for the Ironman World Championships” when what should appear in the ol’ inbox? Why, spy shots of course!!!

Above is the all-new, Triathlon-specific 2012 Specialized Shiv. We say tri-only because it doesn’t appear to meet the UCI’s 3:1 rule. We’ll get the official scoop later this week and have formal details. For now, though, click through and check out the crazy internal fueling (hydration) system integrated into the downtube…

2012 Specialized Shiv TT triathlon bike spy shot from Kona Ironman world championships with integrated hydration tube and straw in the downtube

Armed with Fit, Fuel and Aero tech, our anonymous tipster’s pics won’t let us zoom in enough, but that’s definitely a hydration tube and straw hose built into the downtube. Sure beats stacking some beer cans on top of the aero bars.

This one’s Di2, but we’re betting there will be lower spec levels, too. More as we get it!

Well, as someone who doesn’t scour every inch of the internet hunting for triathlon bike news, I appreciate it. You know, even if it is a painful, glacially slow week late…

Actually the top 5 photos just came out yesterday, and for those of us who don’t live on slowtwitch and twitter it’s a nice update. They may consider adding the info that there is ~60 – 90 mm adjustability in stem reach, up to 50 mm of stack under the stem and another 50 mm of stack under the arm rests. There is also angular adjustability of the aero extensions. All major improvements to allow for a decent fit. The integrated hydration system (fuelsalage I think they’re calling it) ranges from ~ 20-25 fl oz I think depending on frame size.

Just hope the hydration system doesn’t get moldy

It is a removable bladder similar to a hydration pack I believe.

It’s tri gear, who cares when it shows up? Any bike that requires a swim before and a run after to use it is pointless in my book.

Having the front brake outside seems like a step backwards. Hopefully there’s a nose cone, or the brakes will get incorporated in to the front fork like Trek’s are.

Why is there a bottle cage…?
