Straight outta Petaluma, California, comes the news that Marin Bikes is releasing an updated version of the popular Four Corners adventure touring bike with the Four Corners 1. For decades, the Four Corners has been a staple in Marin’s drop bar line. The model was reinvented in 2016 in celebration of Marin Bikes’ 30th anniversary.

Marin calls these stout, steel rigs “Ultilituor” adventure touring bicycles. And they have been used for everything from your average weekday commute to transcontinental excursions.

Since 2018 the Four Corners model has used size-specific wheel sizes (XSmall & Small = 650b, and Medium, Large, and XLarge = 700c) to help with proper rider fit, and a more balanced riding experience.

Taller head tubes and a high stack keep the riding position more upright for better sightseeing, better comfort, and better visibility. More frame-carrying capacity allows for a bigger frame bag to be used.

Updates for the Four Corners 1

Marin has adjusted the geometry on the Four Corners 1 a little. Because the headtube has a 5° slacker angle and is 10mm shorter, they were able to keep the stack height virtually untouched. The updated seat tubes are now dropper post-compatible.

Marin Four Corners 1 handlebar width

Hoping to give riders more real estate for handlebar bags the updated handlebars are wider at 400-440mm. Therefore, with the new widths, riders will find a more stable stance while off-road.

The number of accessory mounts on the frame has increased as well, with two on the top of the top tube near the head tube and three on the underside of the down tube.

Let’s talk tire clearance. With the new updated Four Corners 1 comes 40mm tires on both wheel sizes and has clearance to fit up to 45mm tires on both wheel sizes.

The drive train for the Four Corners 1 is spec’d with Shimano’s great, wide-range, traditional, and dependable Sora 3×9. The stopping power is provided by the capable TRP Spyre-C cable-actuated disc brakes.

This seems like a great value for a do-it-all touring bike.

Do we have any idea when they will be releasing this updated version? They’ve been out of stock (presumably as they’re releasing a new version)…. I’ve been hanging out to purchase a Small for months!
