After a couple years in development with designer Lewis Mathiske, Velocite has released the Helios aero road bike.

The bike is a full carbon monocoque frame with high modulus carbon fibers made using high pressure molding to eliminate wrinkles in the frame. The shape was tested in the wind tunnel in Australia, but it’s designed to be as laterally stiff as any traditional road bike. Additionally, Velocite says the aero shaping adds no significant weight penalty…it comes in at 1250g for size medium.

The Helios Aero has a full carbon BB30 bottom bracket shell and full carbon faced tapered head tube. Thanks to the high pressure molding, Velocite says the insides of the tubes are smooth enough to run the cables internally with no special guides. That also makes it full compatible with internal routing of Shimano Di2 and the other electronic groups that are coming.

The Helios Aero fork is full carbon monocoque, including carbon dropouts and has wideset aero blades.

The 40mm offset seatpost comes with the frameset and offers a full 48mm of horizontal adjustability, letting you put it almost directly over the BB to use as a TT/Triathon bike or laid back for normal riding.

Price for the frame set is $2999, while a complete Shimano Dura-Ace bike with their deep profile carbon clincher wheels is $6999. Size medium will be available in April, other sizes in June. While we doubt they’ll be ante-ing up for the Approved by UCI scheme, Velocite says it’s within the 3:1 limits.

The Velocite Magnus, which we reviewed in November, has undergone a few frame changes for 2011. The original frame is shown below, and you can see the more intensive shaping and curved seatstays on the 2011 model.

Other changes include a more aero profile and a new, hidden streamlined seatpost clamp:

The shift cable guides are also much more streamlined; integrated into the headtube for 2011.

Velocite bikes and wheels are available in the U.S. through DNA Distributing.
