DT Swiss’ suspension carried over the changes introduced at Sea Otter earlier this year with the move to bring all of the production back in-house, so Eurobike was all about their rims and wheels.
Starting with XC/Trail, they announced their very light XMC carbon wheels before the show. Those came with a claimed weight as low as 1,410g. Now, there’s an even lighter version called XRC, with the “R” for “Race”. These just barely move the scale at 1,340 in their lightest configuration thanks to a shallower 20mm deep rim and going slightly narrower to 28mm external, 21.5mm internal.
Both wheelsets retail for €1,998 regardless of hub or rim selection, click through for weights on the new XRC wheel options and lots more…
All hubs use the Centerlock brake mount except the RS-1 option, which gets standard 6-bolt.
XRC 27.5″
- Front 15mm TA – 615g
- Front RS-1 – 715g
- Front 15mm Boost 110 – 620g
- Rear 12×142 – 725g
- Rear 12×148 Boost – 730g
XRC 29er
- Front 15mm TA – 655g
- Front RS-1 – 755g
- Front 15mm Boost 110 – 660g
- Rear 12×142 – 790g
- Rear 12×148 Boost – 795g
The XRC has the same matte finish as the XMC shown above. All of DT Swiss’ wheels come tubeless ready now, pre-taped and ready to roll with tubeless valves (even the road/cross wheels ship ready for tubeless!) These even come with all axle end caps and both standard freehub body and XD driver in the box.
If you wanna roll your own, the new wider XM 481 and 551 rims come in at 35mm and 44mm respectively. Interior width for the 481 is 30mm and weights are 490g (27.5) and 525g (29er). The 551 measures 40mm inside and weighs in at 595g (27.5 only). They ship with the DT Squorx PHR system nipples that prevent binding by allowing the nipple to align itself straight with the spoke.
DT noted that every one of their mountain wheelsets is available in Boost sizes for 2016, something that their in-house engineers were very excited about. The move to the wider hub flanges was said to have increased 29er wheel stiffness by almost 15%. They also noted that while they showed several XC-oriented wheel updates, wider rims are currently in the works for Plus sized tires that we should expect in the near future.
RR21 Disc is a new welded alloy rim road and cross wheelset with DT’s first DiCut disc-brake hubs, asym rims and bladed spokes.
Retail for the set is €818.
The new R32, shown bottom right, is similar with a welded rim that’s a little deeper but just 18mm wide inside. But, it comes in rim (1,735g) and disc brake (1,720g) versions. Price is €478 rim / €498 disc.
The RRC65, shown top left, is a new deep aero carbon rim wheelset with ceramic bearings. €2,398 clincher/€2,198 tubular (1,405g).
The R32 gets chromed Spline hubs…
…but the RRC65 gets the SINC ceramic bearing upgrade. Again, like the mountain wheels, the road clinchers are all tubeless-ready out of the box, shipping with valves and rims strips, and all hubs can be swapped to XD drivers.
Their flagship Mon Chasseral wheels debuted at Sea Otter, so no changes there yet.
