Forget about trying to source a beater and refinish it, now you can get a brand new Schwinn “Lemon Peeler” Stingray for $350.

“The Schwinn Lemon Peeler is one of the most recognized Schwinn bikes,” said Milissa Rick, Senior Director of Marketing for Schwinn. “We are excited to make this bike available to those who always wanted to own a Schwinn Sting Ray. This is an opportunity for us to also share our story with a new audience.”

This remake features all the same tricks that made it such a popular ride back in the 1960’s – a suspended saddle, suspension fork, fenders, coaster brake…

…and a glittery, racing striped banana seat.

Ape hanger handlebars, a 16″ front wheel and 20″ rear with Stingray tire polish it off.

Only 500 are being made. So, if nostalgia’s kicking in, or your kid just needs a bike that stands out, order quick once they go live. It’ll be available on Amazon shortly for $349.99. Which begs the question: Is a peeler you can’t get at your dealer a win for Schwinn?

UPDATE: The first batch is already sold out, next batch will be available in late April (around 4/24 if you wanna mark that calendar).

Your absolutely right and some of the original Stingrays did.

Love that they kept the squared off rear tire.

This is a tease-crime against all kids who want to ride a cool bike.

Bet that chrome is a quarter the thickness of an original.

LOL, had one as a kid. Unfortunately we quickly developed a hankerin’ to riding it off 4′ angled ramps onto level ground. The rear shocks did not perform as advertised.

Not authentic replica. I know for sure because I let a friend ride mine and laughed hysterically as he squeezed the front DRUM BRAKE at speed and did a slow motion launch forward as the
bikes rear rises up high and the front sticks to the asphalt. This looks like a standard axle. Unfortunately mine was stolen

I wonder if Dealers will be able to stock replacement tires.
I hope they make the “Cotton Picker” next!

Now that would start some crap. Not PC.

A winner for Schwinn yes, but not the dealers.
IMO they should be sold online and shipped to a local dealer, if available, for assembly.
Could be a Win Win.
But instead Win, lose. Thanks Cannondale! 🙁

I rebuilt a stingray junior for my kids. They argue over who gets to ride it & we always get comments on the bike. Schwinn would be smart to make these more widely available.

Shame on anyone who picks this bike apart. Love it for what it is. The coolest bike there is today. I have an original 1971 Schwinn Stingray Krate bike and this bike is the same thing minus a couple of amenities. And this one is $3000 cheaper than the original. Yes I lucked out and got one of these brand new 2017s.

As I told the current Schwinn company phone rep, it is a shame that they take a child’s toy and make it a collector’s item, rather than continuing the heritage and enjoyment for kids today!

I have one since March, I ride it on weekends around my house with my 2 kids, and the other kids just look at and say positive comments about it.
