This week, it’s all about gravel bikes and adventure cycling. We take go on a bikepacking trip with REI and interview their Co-op Cycles and camping equipment creative director about how the national outdoor equipment retailer is looking to the future of bikepacking, how that will shape their gear development, and what we can expect.

But first, we talk to Gravel Cycling author Nick Legan about how to get into the sport, what to look for in a bike, and his top pics for first time events. In between, Watts and Tyler mull the meaning of it all.

Mentioned in this episode:

Like this but want it in audio format? We’re converting several of our best episodes into apodcasts and will be launching longer, uncut versions of future episodes as an all-new Bikerumor podcast in late April. Stay tuned!

Is Enduro is the opposite of bike packing? You have on one hand the concept of carrying as little as possible to get one’s ride on versus carrying the kitchen sink with you to get yr ride on. While fun is not mutual exclusive to either style the definitions are from vastly different points of view. Whatever turns one on.

Can you interview Jayson @ GravelCyclist.com – I would say he has a more professional and wider perspective on gravel. “Pretty looking on a coffee table” doesn’t cut it 😉 PS – Watts jaded, bitter, hollow attitude is the Yin to Tyler’s Yang.

Remember that time I should have listened to the whole thing before I commented 😉

Good sir, are you implying that I’m not professional? Also… who said I’m jaded, bitter, and hollow. Oh wait… I did.
