Want to add SRAM Eagle’s massive 500% range to your 1x gravel or adventure bike? MicroSHIFT has you covered with their all-new 12-speed “Eagle” compatible thumb shifter and bar end shifter. The two models offer options for flat bars or drop bars respectively, marrying the latest tech with the simplicity of a friction shifter system.

Both parts can be switched between friction and index shifting, giving you the option for minute tuning of derailleur position, or just clicking it through the steps. Why add these? If you’re headed out into the wild, they’re simple and easy to adjust and repair. Or, at least easier than a SRAM drop bar lever. Cheaper, too…but pricing is TBD. Available later this year.

The new MicroSHIFT XLE rear derailleur adds new range to their growing collection of Shimano-compatible gravel and adventure bike components. Paired with the same drop bar shifters introduced earlier this year for their 1x XCD rear derailleur, the new XLE version adds compatibility for the extra chain length needed for 2×11 systems. It keeps the same upgraded clutch mechanism as the XCD, just with more range.

In fact, when you combine their 11-46 cassette with a 36/46 chainring combo, they say that’s a 566% range. The shifters and rear derailleur are Shimano Dyna-Sys compatible, too, so you can mix and match as you wish between the brands’ components.

While the new adult derailleurs get stronger clutches for better chain retention, they also have a new “kids” derailleur with reduced spring force. This reduces shifting effort by a claimed 10%, helping those little fingers shift gears quicker and easier so they can stay focused on where they’re going.

Compatible with Shimano Dyna-Sys 11 speed(Ratio1.1) or 10 speed(Ratio 1.2)????

What were these guys showing for cranks and, in particular, front derailleurs for 2x gravel setups? As much as their rear derailleurs are nice, there is also a gap in the market for front derailleursdesigned to shift these smaller ring combos, but compatible with road shifter cable pulls.

I used a Metrea FD, which turns out to be compatible with 105 shifters, for a 44/30 Sugino crankset. It was designed for 46/32 but seems to work splendidly.

That is a good tip, thanks!

Once upon a time, I was a big thumbshifter user, and still have a soft spot in my heart for them, even though a trigger would better suit the trail riding I do (who wants to remove their thumb from the bar when shifting while riding over bumpy terrain?). The barrel adjuster and the graphics on the shifter look a lot like Suntour XC Pro of yesterwhen. Good to see some variety in drivetrain choices beyond Shimano and SRAM, though, especially for gravel riders. I hope they bring out a 12s cassette and announce prices soon.

I totally agree. I kind of miss the days of thumb shifters. I remember being very jealous of my buddy who had some lightweight steel mtb with indexing thumb shifters back in like 93? 94? I had a Trek 930 with rapid-fire, and even then I knew that the thumbies he had came with an old-school cool.

That bar end may come in super handy if I decide to put Record 12 on my Tri rig…..

Only if they offer it with a bar end mount… a compatible bar end mount already exists with their 10sp mtn bar end, but these won’t work with their 10 & 11sp tri bar end mounts.
Their road & mtn bar ends have slightly different mounts for the lever)… you’ll need to buy the 10sp mtn bar end to get the appropriate bar end mount for these levers.

The top image at the headline is not a 12? (serious question)

Only if they offer a bar end mount version…
Microshift uses a slightly different bar end mount for their mtn bar ends (vs their 10 & 11sp TT shifters)
You could make this work with your Campy if you buy a set of their 10sp mtn shifters (to get the bar end plug)

I think these are great modifications to your bike. My 11 speed micro shift thumb shifters have been great for bikepacking on my Krampus. Allows you to go to friction if your having shifting problems in the middle of nowhere…
Strange technical info about them is they also let me use a 10 speed derailleur with 11 speed cassette vs the sti shifters…not sure how the pull ratio would be different?

I miss ‘friction mode’ in such a big way. Many current riders would not even understand what it is….or why it is a great thing to have.

I think there is a typo, a 36/46 with 11-46 gives 534%, I think it should be a 34/46 pairing because that gives 566%
