Gocycle announced the new GXi, a folding commuter e-bike. Featuring a 375Wh battery, daytime running lights, and electronic predictive shifting, it’s stepping outside of traditional designs to offer a compelling package. For storage or train transportation, it folds down in a mere ten seconds to a much smaller size.

This isn’t the first futuristic-looking compact e-bike we’ve come across, blurring the aesthetic lines of what a bike is ‘supposed’ to look like. Gocycle makes a wide range of folding bikes, and the GXi is the latest addition. With a range of up to 50 miles (80km) and a 4-hour charge time, could it be the ideal urban commuter?
The lines of the 6061 T6 alloy GXi are decidedly swoopy, with a main hinge in the middle of the bike that allows battery access. The lithium ion battery specs are 17 Ah, 22 V, and approximately 375 Wh.
That battery drives a proprietary Gocycle front hub motor that puts out 500 watts – and even has traction control. In case you were wondering, those wheels are 20-inch, with 2.25″ Gocycle All Weather tires.
The unique drivetrain includes a Shimano Nexus 3-speed hub that is electronically controlled with Gocycle’s Predictive Shifting. The rear end of the bike even has a Lockshock suspension system with 1 inch of travel.
With the bike folded down, dimensions are as follows:
Kickstand down: L830mm x W370mm x H750mm (L32.7in x W14.6in x H29.5in) with removable pedal detached; Kickstand up: L880mm x W370mm x H615mm (L34.6in x W14.6in x H24.2in) with removable pedal detached
Complete bike weight clocks in at a reasonable 38.6 lbs, with a 220-pound rider weight limit.
The Gocycle GXi is available to pre-order now, for a price of $4,799. It includes a 2-year warranty for the original owner.
