The Rocky Mountain Race Face Enduro Team has been spotted rocking Smith Optic’s first ever full face helmet. Jesse Melamed’s Instagram gives us a sneak preview of the Smith Mainline Enduro Helmet; he and team members Andréane Lanthier Nadeau and Remi Gauvin are pictured wearing the new lid.

Now REI has released details, offering pre-order of the Smith Mainline for $300. Here’s what we know so far.

Smith Mainline Full Face Helmet

This $300 enduro helmet is Downhill Certified to ASTM F1952 standards. It’s a single piece full face helmet that fastens with a moto-style D-ring strap. It is made up of a lightweight Aerocore in-mold construction with a polycarbonate shell. Twenty-one vents provide ventilation, a key consideration in the construction of modern enduro helmets.

Like the vast majority of Smith’s mountain bike helmets, the new Smith Mainline full-face helmet features complete Koroyd coverage. Utilizing crumple-zone cylinders that crush uniformly on impact, Koroyd is said to manage energy more efficiently with less volume than traditional protection materials.

The Smith Mainline also gets MIPS rotational impact protection, a technology that has become a mainstay across high-end mountain bike helmets. This head-interfacing liner moves 10mm to 15 mm in all directions independently of the helmet’s shell. This reduces the likelihood of rotational impact-induced concussions.

The new Smith Mainline full face helmet is available in three sizes; Small, Medium, and Large, which will fit head circumferences of 20.1″-21.7″, 21.7″-23.2″, and 23.2″-24.4″, respectively.

Each comes with its own set of three different-sized cheek pads, two sets of sized crown liners, and two neck rolls so riders can get a perfect fit. Said pads are made from an antibacterial Hybrid X-Static/XT2 material.

The new Smith Mainline features an adjustable visor, compatible with POV cameras and lights. The rear is shaped with a lip near the top, presumably to allow for secure goggle fitting.
