If we look at e-bikes for their potential to get commuters out of cars and onto two wheels, this new HNF-Nicolai XF3 Adventure urban assault eMTB might be the thing to get a driver out of an SUV. Developed as a mix of Nicolai’s gravity bike development & production capability, the latest premium eMTB tech from the HNF side, and all the details you could ask for in a city bike – the XF3 Adventure is an uncompromising commuter e-bike with full off-road capability and double the range of most e-bikes.

The heart of the HNF-Nicolai XF3 Adventure e-bike is a 27.5″-wheeled trail-ready 7000-series aluminum full-suspension frame made-in-Germany by the TIG-welding experts from the Nicolai side of the HNF-Nicolai partnership – with 140mm of travel out back, slack geometry, and paired to a 160mm fork.

To move it forward, the latest gen4 Bosch Performance CX motor puts the power through an electronically-controlled Rohloff Speedhub 500 e14 internally geared hub, powered by a 1125Wh Bosch DualBattery setup – with a 25km/hr pedal-assist max speed. The XF3 Adventure pairs a 625Wh Bosch PowerTube battery inside the downtube, to a second PowerTube 500Wh battery inside the toptube for double the range you get out of most e-bikes.

Both can still be independently removed (so you could ride with just one to save weight) and can be fully charged in 3.7hr with the included Fast Charger.

It uses the small Bosch Kiox display with wired remotes for both the pedal-assist & Rohloff controls, plus powerful connected Supernova StVZO LED lighting.

    • It’s good for the Superdelite to *finally* have some competition (never seen a 10k bike be so popular)

This Nikolai is a neat but the rack looks like an afterthought.

Linkage also looks a little dinky for a 70lber

at 160mm on 70lb bike would really like to see the ZEB or 38 on there, at least as an option (goes for RM as well)

RM will likely outsell Nikolai mostly because they offer a class 3 HS version.

  1. Bless Nicolai’s commitment to eschewing forming tubes and, instead, welding a bazillion plates together. It may or may not have a meaningful effect on performance, but it absolutely makes for a unified visual vocabulary between their bikes. Especially when you factor in all the CNC flair in the linkages. Even in an image-heavy industry, that’s not always easy to come by.
