At the beginning of the year, AbsoluteBlack debuted their gorgeously machined oval chainrings for Shimano’s asymmetric 4-arm road cranksets. Now, they’ve added to options for five-bolt arms, including SRAM’s hidden-bolt layout.
Shown above is the SRAM 110bcd 5-bolt chainring set and are designed specifically for that brand’s cranks, which place one of the bolts behind the crank arm. It’ll fit Red, Red eTap, Force, Rival, Rival, etc, including those equipped with a Quarq power meter. They’re available now in 34 (31g, 6.5% ovalization ), 36 (36g, 11.4%) and 50 / 52 (119g / 131g, 10.3%) tooth counts. Colors are black, red and grey colors, retail ranges from $62 to $126.
If you’re running SRAM Apex or any other standard five-arm road crankset, you might want the new 130bcd rings (shown on right). This includes Shimano Dura-Ace 7900/7800, Ultegra 6700, Shimano 105 5700, Tiagra 4600, FSA, Rotor 3D & 3D+, S-works and others. Because of that larger bcd these rings are limited to a 53/39 combo, and they’re only offered in black. Price is $62 for the small ring (34g, 6.5%) and $124 for the large (110g, 10.3%).
Note that these are the higher end versions of their road oval chainrings. They also offer the Winter series with less machining that come in a bit less expensive but are currently only for modern Shimano 110/4 cranks.
