You  may not be able to sprint like Mark Cavendish, but you’ll soon be able to wear his helmet.  The Uvex FP-1 bicycle helmet, as worn by Team Columbia-Highroad, is available now in UK stores via Raleigh.  No word on US availability at the moment.  Oddly, the FP-1 is not even shown on Uvex’s website.
Great shot of Mark! Thanks for sharing. The FP-1 helmet is an elite racer helmet manufactured to the CE standard and is acceptable at all USCF and UCI sanctioned races. Introduced in 2004 It is the first 200 gram road helmet in the world. Unfortunately, do to the testing methodology required by CPSC, the helmet does not pass the CPSC standard for use by consumers in The United States. As such the helemt will NOT ever be available for retail sale in the US. This is unfortunate, as the helmet is actually technologically superior to any other product Uvex makes do to an innovative internal roll cage, manufactured into the EPS foam. The helmet is readily available in Europe and Canada. Uvex does manufacture a number of similar models, including the impending arrival of the FP-1’s successor, the FP-3.0!
