Shortly after NAHBS, we road tripped south and stopped in San Francisco for a quick visit with our friends at Mission Workshop. Based in the Mission District, they’ve grown from a really small showroom in the back into a full retail storefront with a loft-style open office in the behind it.

The big red door is the rear of their building, but it used to be their storefront before the front of the building became available.

Mission Workshop employs about 10 people, some work from home, others here. They started in 2009, and founders Bart and Mark came from Chrome Industries. They, along with Doug Hudson, started Chrome and eventually sold it. Doug went on to launch Feedback Sports, and you can hear that (very entertaining) story of his time at both brands in my Build Cycle podcast interview.

Inside the red door is their main office area, with the lower level doubling as meeting space, shipping/receiving, and more.
They do all their own product photography here.
A small cutting table and samples shelves is where they test prototypes and design new products.
Up about is where most of the desks are, and where pretty much everyone works…when they come in.

Open offices can be loud, so when someone needs quiet for a call or concentration, they head to that little blue shed outside.

Walk in the front and you’ll see their expansive retail showroom.

Nowadays, MW has expanded to include streetwear, travel bags and more. All of the products are their own designs and combine street style with performance fabrics.

All of the bags are made Denver and Los Angeles, and they have everything from messengers to soft briefcase style bags that’ll attach to your handlebars and front rack, to backpacks ranging from about 15L up to 65L.

They’ve also added more colors over the years, and lots of accessories that attach using their Arkiv system.

The collection has come full circle now, with a proper bibshorts-and-jersey cycling kit, too. Check out the details on that here. MW offers a lifetime warranty on all their products.

If you swing by for a visit, we (and they) highly recommend a visit to Deli Board (killer sandwiches), Pancho Villa Taqueria (local fave for tacos and burritos), Samovar Tea (apparently the best Chai tea you’ll ever have, we didn’t get to try one but it smelled amazing) and Four Barrel Coffee to avoid the food coma from the above.

I have a couple pairs of the Traverse AM shorts. Amazing fit and build quality! Well worth the cost.
