Johan Bruyneel’s blog is a fairly interesting and straightforward affair. It’s usually an honest and thorough explanation of what he’s thinking, what’s going on with his time and, at times, racing in general.
His recent explanation to counter CyclingNews’ article stating that Team Radio Shack wasn’t invited to the Giro d’Italia is no exception. First off, you should know that the team wasn’t invited because Bruyneel told organizers that his team wouldn’t be competing there this year, which isn’t what the rumor mill has been suggesting.
Here’s why Team Radio Shack isn’t going to Italy:
- They’ll be busy supporting three-time Tour of California winner Levi Leipheimer as he defends his title.
- They’re an American team, and the ToC is of more interest to their ownership than the Giro.
- Their primary sponsors (Radio Shack, Trek, Nissan, etc.) are all more interested in building exposure here.
For the more verbose, eloquent version of that, check Bruyneel’s blog. The Giro d’Italia starts May 8 and the Amgen Tour of California starts May 16.
