From discounted free Kogel ceramic derailleur pulley bearing upgrades, to cash back on Wahoo Roam computers to almost half off Quarq DZero power meters, and tons of premium bikes on sale, the CoronaDays Deals just keep piling up. Ever since this pandemic has taken hold, we’ve seen countless cycling industry businesses impacted, some worse so than others.

But one recurring theme is brands just looking to keep sales moving forward, whether to maintain cashflow or make room for new stock. As huge percentages of bike shops around the world are shuttered in lockdown mode, or just dialing back to core essential operations to maintain social distancing, typical shop turnover has essentially dried up. Supporting your local independent bicycle dealer is always a great idea, but so can be buying direct from some of the many brands who are offering consumer-direct deals in a time when not all shops are accessible…

Mega Deals on Bikes, Gadgets & Gear

  • Quarq DZero DUB 10/11sp modular power meters 50% price drop – SRAM may be pushing 1×12 hard with their top AXS & Eagle groups, but many of us are still riding 10-speed & 11-speed drivetrains. So their Quarq electronics division is dropping pricing on their modular spider-based DZero power meters, and not just for a limited time. For $400€ (down from $780€) you can now get a DZero DUB power meter spider to work with any standard 5-bolt chainring (1x or 2x, 10 or 11sp) or a DFour DUB power meter spider for use with Shimano R9100 Dura-Ace 4-bolt rings. Mount either to a new set of $196/218€ crank arms & a $38-50/38-52€ DUB bottom bracket. Or an even better deal if you ride Specialized, buy a $400€ DZero power meter spider to fit your existing S-Works crank arms. Then, lastly, you can pick up a compatible chainring for $41-147/43-150€ to round out your new power metering setup (or the standard rings of your choice). Quarq.com/DZeroDUB

  • Get $50 / £49 Cash Back on a new Wahoo Elemnt Roam this month – Buy a new Elemnt Roam GPS (or a bundle of one) anytime in the month of April in the US or UK, and Wahoo fitness will give you back fifty bucks. To get the $50 Cash Back (or £40 in the UK) you have to buy the GPS, use it & keep the receipt for a month, then after 30 days is up (and up to 45 days after the purchase date) you can submit your claim online to get a cashback reward sent directly to your bank account. The delay looks to be a safeguard against people gaming the system with returns, and will give the qualifying retailers a cash influx in the short-term. Full details at: Wahoo-promotions.com

  • Buy a Kogel ceramic BB, get matching ceramic pulleys for free – In Kogel Bearings’ spring sale they are offering a killer ceramic deal. “Buy any bottom bracket $119 and up. We will send you a set of pulleys to complete your ride for zero dollars. Just select your preferred set in the pop-up window or in the store and add them to your cart.” All ceramic derailleur upgrade pulleys up to $130 are included. That means you are gonna buy a ceramic BB, and get a ceramic pulley upgrade for any derailleur on the market, that likely costs more than the BB… for free. (The discount will appear automatically in your cart.) Tons of options are available. Time for a low-friction upgrade. Kogel.cc

I’d be quite interested in their Hyas model if it weren’t for the BB86. I‘m done – I have to have a threaded BB from here on out.

DUB(Durable Unified Bottom Bracket) is never durable on your BB86 frames. Those tiny small ball bearings have low load ratings and will certainlly fail and creak, probably messing your power meter readings as well.

Yep, never buy a frame with BB86. BB386EVO is what you want.

If you are running Shimano on a pressfit frame, BB86 is actually as good as it gets, bearing-wise.

I couldn’t be arsed to run a DUB bottom bracket which, IMO, is a compromise in search of a problem.
