Recently, MicroShift introduced their ADVENT X drivetrain. A 10 speed wide range drivetrain with an impressive weight and very approachable price, ADVENT X understandably garnered quite a bit of attention. Now that wide range tech is dropping down to an even more affordable level with the new ADVENT 9 speed additions.

The MicroShift ADVENT line up already included a number of drivetrain options, but the cassettes all stopped at 42t for the largest cog. Now, you’ll be able to get a 9 speed ADVENT cassette in a wide, but not too wide, 11-46t. Like their other cassettes, this one uses a standard Shimano HG splined freehub body meaning you probably won’t have to buy a new freehub or hub to make it work.

Built with carbon steel cogs with an ED Black coating, the CS-H093 cassette teeth have a progression of 11-13-15-18-21-24-30-37-46. No weight is provided, but with all steel cogs, this certainly won’t be the lightest cassette out there. But it’s also just $39.99.

This cassette is meant to be used with the existing MicroShift 9 speed rear derailleurs which come in clutched and non-clutched 1×9 options. Note that while the site still lists the maximum sprocket size as 42t for these derailleurs, MicroShift assures us that they have been tested with the new 46t cassette, and are fully compatible. Also, since these derailleurs are also compatible with the ADVENT drop bar shifters or bar end shifters, it provides an affordable wide range drop bar option as well.

Along with the 11-46t cassette, there is also an updated ADVENT shifter for the 9 speed group as well. The SL-M9295-R Trail Trigger Pro Shifter is designed to be used only with MicroShift 9 speed drivetrains, and has levers that move on cartridge bearings for precise shifting under load. There’ also a silicone traction pad on the thumb for grip in any conditions. The shifter is priced at $29.99, making the whole group incredibly affordable.

I think you meant to say “MicroShift”

“This cassette is meant to be used with the existing MicroSpline 9 speed rear derailleurs which come in clutched and non-clutched 1×9 options. Note that while the site still lists the maximum sprocket size as 42t for these derailleurs, MicroSpline assures us that they have been tested with the new 46t cassette, and are fully compatible. Also, since these derailleurs are also compatible with the ADVENT drop bar shifters or bar end shifters, it provides an affordable wide range drop bar option as well.”

Well Marin Nicasio plus used microshift 1×9 11-46 when it came out in 2019 so this is not really new.

I wonder if these groups are more of an OEM play. Can’t fathom why you’d really go this route when you can easily find and buy an SLX 12 speed shift group for $200.
