Mission Workshop has just unveiled their all-new Orion waterproof cycling jacket.

Made of Schoeller c_change fabric, which actively responds to the inner and outer temperatures by opening or closing the fabric to vent heat and moisture when you’re hot and keep it all in when you’re cold. It’s cut slim and has fully taped seams, rubberized zippers and inner and outer pockets for your iDevices and cell phones and such.

Note the chest pocket, hand pockets and snap off hood. Oh, and the water just rolls right off.

Available in Black and Olive. MSRP is $400, and it’s available in S, M, L and XL. Full specs:

Mission Workshop seems like a super cool company—they make great bags and their Rondel shoe looks really cool. however, for $400, it just doesn’t seem in line with their core values…..it’s all about eVent fabric these days……and there’s no better company than Showers Pass in Portland that can provide you with the best materials, workmanship and VALUE for your money. MW is supposed to appeal to the urban hipsters/bike messengers…..i question whether this demographic really wants to spend $400 on just a jacket when their fixies cost about the same. somebody give MW a reality check…..i want them to succeed and stay healthy, but a $400 puts off everyone except those clowns who buy the Ralpha stuff.

the price is on par with everything else of the same quality / materials. Depending on where you live $400 for a rain jacket might seem silly but not if you live in a rainy city. Here in Vancouver almost everyone owns a $600 Arc’teryx (or similar) shell. Its part of living where it rains from september – march.

Och on the price and the comments. Yes it’s expensive and maybe you get what you pay for. Granted $400 is alot for rain jack but it will prob last 4 times longer than some pearl piece. I have everything from cheap to high end cycling gear and if you can afford it get the high end. 1 Assos bibs lasted 4 times longer than my Louis g stuff and fit way better. Complain about rapha stuff all you want but it’s by far the best made stuff out there. Yes you can get a suit from mens warehouse or a custom; which fits better and looks better…custom. Parlee or fuji? Moots or Gary Fischer?

@binny bin – core values of what exactly? being on the bandwagon of high priced, boutique “action wear” that actually made for looking good while walking around? I’d say this just cements their “core values” even more: acquiring as much disposable income as possible.

I can’t believe how many people don’t understand that nice things cost more money, last longer, and work better. Jackets made with Schoeller will last a decade longer than cheaper items, and won’t lose their waterproofing. So you spend 400 bucks once, or 100 every other year. Simple.

Snap off hood – Fail !
I was really anticipating the release of this jacket and completely understand nice things made by small companies cost money .
But a snap off hood , I have never liked these and they never seem to work right , if it was a one piece hood / jacket Mission would have sold one to me in a flash .
Great looking produce , 🙁 on the snap off hood
