Easily the most striking pair of shoes in this release, the new ‘Cactus Berry’ RX8 gravel shoe is likely to be one of those love it or hate it affairs. According to Shimano’s Lifestyle Gear Product Manager, Jessie Gascon, “the inspiration for this colorful design came from a gravel ride near my house where I was blown away by the beauty of a Santa Rita Prickly Pear Cactus on the side of the trail.” The result is sure to stand out on the trail just like the cactus, and will be added as the third color option for the RX8 lineup starting this fall.

Their flat pedal shoes are awesome, have the existing GR500’s and some GR7’s for trail riding, they rip and grip real good 🙂

I had some but didn’t work for me. The ones shown here don’t tickle my fancy.

None of the articles on these new shoes seem to mention it, but the XC3 mid range XC race shoe is the first time I have ever seen that sort of “mid-mount” single Boa closure. Usually you either see twin dial Boa, or single Boa mounted at the top, either with or without a supplemental velcro strap at the forefoot. I personally like the idea of multiple closures to adjust each zone independently, but if going the single Boa route, I can actually see this sort of mid-mount as potentially being superior in terms of tightening the whole circuit evenly, as with the Boa at one end of the circuit there are inevitably friction losses by the time you get to the other end. I’d like to try a pair of these on to see how they work in practice.
