Got a Nokia phone with 2mm charger hole? You’re in luck, especially if you’re in a “developing market”. Nokia has started shipping an $18 bike charging kit, which consists of Nokia Bicycle Charger DC-14, Nokia Phone Holder for Bicycle CR-124, and a Bottle Dynamo.
It starts charging when you’re pedaling at a speed of 6 km/h is reached and stops at 50 km/h, matching the efficiency of a normal charger when the bike is traveling at 12kmh. It’s particularly useful for those running battery sucking navigation apps, as it’ll keep the phone charged during use. You can also play music using the phone’s built in speakers and still have a full charge when you get where you’re going.
It’ll initially only be available in areas where bicycles are the main source of transportation, but should move to worldwide availability by end of year.
The kit should work with mini-USB as well, as long as you provide the cord, meaning (in theory) it should charge just about any modern cell phone.
