Tadej Pogačar’s Colnago V5Rs from the 2025 Ardennes Classics just sold for a staggering €70,000 at auction.

No joking – you can see the final sale and bike here.

More Than A Bike

On paper, this is just another WorldTour race bike. A Colnago V5Rs, raced at one of the most demanding one-week stretches in cycling, ridden by arguably the best rider in the world. But that’s not really what was being sold here.

Bikeroom (the auction house selling the bike) leaned hard into presenting it as something closer to a piece of art than a used race machine. The whole campaign (which you can see here) framed it more like a museum object, right down to involving former pro Matt Stephens as an “art critic” of sorts.

They even had Matt Stephens filming at the Museo del Ghisallo to give the bike some historical and cultural context. A lot more fireworks than a used crit-dream bike on your local marketplace. For sure, it’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but clearly, it worked.

The Race Auction: Late Bids, Real Demand

Like any good race, the auction itself had a bit of drama.

Multiple bids came in late, enough to extend the auction window more than once. By the time it closed, the final number was €70,000, with 44 bids from nine unique bidders. The winning bid came from Switzerland.

It’s not hard to see why. Unlike team-issued bikes that quietly rotate out of service, this one was fully authenticated alongside Colnago, restored to post-race condition (not really stoked to hear that, I would much rather the dirty bike of the win), and tied directly to Tadej Pogačar during one of the most iconic race blocks of the season. It’s even got a cool Tadej-only ceramic bottom bracket!

That kind of provenance matters, especially if you’re a collector.

Race Bikes – But Verified

Bikeroom is clearly trying to carve out a space here. Take high-end bikes (especially those with real race history) and turn them into verified, authenticated pieces that buyers can trust.

Because historically, that’s been the problem. Race bikes have always trickled into the secondary market, but rarely with full documentation or a clear story attached. This changes that.

BikeRoom gave us the details, and over 130,000 users hit the auction page, and more than a million in combined reach. There’s clearly interest beyond just the final buyer. I love checking the page just to see what’s out there. Secretly, I’m waiting for a Zdeněk Štybar Pink S-Works Bunny Hopper (World Champion cyclocross frame to show up.
