Sidi’s newest top-level Sixty road shoe hits a new benchmark of lightweight high performance, and actually does so by removing features in a more minimalist approach for the Italian shoemaker. To mark 60 years of Sidis, they’ve pared back the Shot into a new lighter weight road shoe – the new SIXTY.
Update: Sidi has provided official retail pricing & a comment on weight savings.
Sidi Sixty road shoes marks 60 years of Italian shoemaking
When Sidi Sport started in 1960 they were making trekking boots, not adding cycling shoes until thirteen years later. But today cycling is huge for the Italian company. And with Colombian Egan Bernal having won the Tour de France this year wearing Sidi shoes – the 15th time for a cyclist wearing their shoes – it seemed a good company milestone to show a continued evolution of performance.
Up to now pretty much every time I can remember Sidi introducing a new top-tier shoe for road or mountain bike racing, it was all about adding more advanced features or technologies. Now with the new Sixty, it actually looks like they are dialing it back with a more refined design.
Sidi Sixty carbon road shoes – Tech details
The new Sixty is an evolution of the Shot that Bernal rode in this year’s your, but they get simplified for an overall lighter setup. Most notably they keep only one of Sidi’s dial retention setups with a double loop wire for fine fit control across the mid foot. It does get named Tecno-4 Push, suggesting a new evolution which promises faster release and simple replacement of spare parts. The lower dial is replaced with Sidi’s lower-tech & lighter weight High Security Velcro closure with interlocking plastic teeth inside surrounded by the velcro.
The shoes also drop Sidi’s large signature plastic heel cup with its adjustable heel retention. Instead the Sixty has a lighter, pared-down integrated plastic heel cup for structure & support, that also adds low-key reflectivity for added visibility.
The lightweight & stiff full-carbon sole construction of the Sixty is the same as the Shot, called the Vent Carbon Sole. It has a 2-position opening at the replaceable toe tread that can open to let air in for hot weather riding, or close for cold or wet rides. It also gets a replaceable heel tread block too. The Sixty’s upper also keeps the same Techpro Microfiber material with mesh vents, replacing the side vents with more perforations and mesh at the ankles.
