Riding the glacier: MTB riders vie for Megavalanche 2022 speed record

Megavalanche week did not disappoint. From June 27 to July 3, the world’s longest downhill MTB race took over the Alpe d’Huez ski resort in France. The wily race organizers added a new punch to the program for 2022 — the Speed Bike Challenge.

In the Speed Bike Challenge, participants functionally slide down a glacier on their steeds toward some abysmal finish line. This year, the fastest rider not only pedaled off with a ‘W’ — they earned the distinction of having set the very first Megavalanche speed record.

The whole thing appears to be just about as absurd as it is sketchy. Take a look!
