When Vielo first debuted, their original V+1 was an all-road bike developed for British riders looking to be free from the constraints of smooth tarmac. Now three years later, that same V+1 has been reborn as a full-on gravel bike, still ready to take you on adventures from road to off-road with two different lightweight carbon frame options…

Vielo V+1 updated, more capable lightweight carbon gravel bikes

The new gravel Vielo V+1 looks quite similar to its original all-road iteration, but a complete redesign brings a number of key tweaks to make the 1x gravel bike more capable across a wide mix of terrain, yet just as fast as ever. Subtle reshaping give the bike and hourglass headtube up front, and wider-set symmetric stays in the back.

What’s new?

The new gravel Vielo V+1 employs all-new geometry with more bottom bracket drop, longer 435mm chainstays, slightly slackened head angle, a bit lower stack, and longer reach. All of it is said to put the rider’s weight a bit lower and further forward for improved handling and stability at speed off-road.

Overall, the V+1 is going to feel more capable off-road with the goal of maintaining on-road speed, and still in 5 standard frame sizes (XXS-XL).

The bike also moves to a fully 1x-only design with a stiffer symmetric chainstay & BB layout, again coming with a wide Token Ninja EVO PF86 bottom bracket

Out back, the same thinned & curved comfort seatstays move outward to fit bigger tires, now with ample room for 700c x 45mm or 650b x 50mm tires. Even with more tire clearance, Vielo founder Ian Hughes still sees the V+1 as a fast ‘race’ performance gravel bike, rather than a technical off-road bikepacking machine.

The other big update, the V+1 now is offered with a standard Strato carbon layup (1100g) and a lighter-weight Alto frame (880g) to fit a wider range of budgets. Although the V+1 still isn’t exactly cheap, it seems that exchange rates have driven up the price in British £ as the new Strato is priced higher than the lighter original.

Into the key details, the bike still uses 12mm thru-axles, but now is updated for flat mount disc brake calipers.

The Vielo V+1 features a 1.5″ tapered carbon steerer, conventional modular internal cable routing (optimized for moto brake setup), a hidden wedge clamp for the 30.9mm seatpost (with stealth dropper routing), hidden full-coverage fender compatibility, and plenty of bottle cage mounts. The new V+1 gets a 3-pack of bosses on the downtube so you can mount a single bottle lower, plus seattube, under BB, and toptube/bento mounts, as well. Not fork leg mounts, again focusing on speed over hauling capacity.

Vielo alloy crankset & direct mount chainring

Vielo also has added to option for their own direct mount alloy chainrings (38-46T options) that fit SRAM carbon cranks, CNC-machined out of 7075 billet for max stiffness. Or you can opt for Vielo’s drop forged alloy crank arms too.

The new Vielo V+1 is available either as a £3400 Strato or £3900 Alto frameset, or in several complete bike builds. Vielo doesn’t do black, so the V+1 is offered in one of four satin pastel paint jobs – Apple Green or Plum for the lower-priced Strato frames, Rock Salt Pink or Blue Stone for the lighter Alto framesets.

Pressfit comedy, I’d like to certain tolerances pass muster and 2x is about close ratio, not for a very long time has it been about range.

I bought their gravel bike and road it extensively (10k, miles). It is a fun bike but I cannot recommend buying any vielo bikes because they don’t provide any real warranty.
the carbon handlebar (which is produced for vielo) developed a crack and initially vielo recognized that this was a manufacturing issue, but they were unwilling to replace it with a carbon bar (offering a cheap alloy bar instead), so I ended up paying for an expensive carbon bar of similar characteristics out of my own pocket.
Stick with bike brands that are willing to uphold certain quality standards.
