The Wahoo ELEMNT keeps getting better. It’s already just about the easiest GPS cycling computer to set up pre ride, sync post ride, and now it’ll provide real time Strava Segments during the ride.
In the ELEMNT’s typical ease of use fashion, getting a Strava Live Segment to show up on the screen is as simply as starring a segment on Strava.com. Then, as you ride, a special screen pops up when you encounter a marked segment and shows you progress. Additional parameters like speed, power, heart rate, etc., can be added to that screen, too. Just customize it through the smartphone app and you’re off to the virtual races…
During a segment, the top row of lights shows your progress through it. The left hand lights show whether you’re beating or behind the pace of the KOM, your own PR, or an opponent of your choice. During the last 200m of the segment, if you’re close to beating the goal, it’ll flash with a “Final Push” beep of encouragement to help you nab the KOM. It’ll even track multiple Segments at once if they overlap, all while running GPS-based route guidance with or without turn-by-turn directions. Don’t wanna go for it? Just tap Dismiss and your ride will carry on as normal.
Finish and you’ll get kudos, or at least notification of your effort. The update will come over the air through the iOS and Andriod apps and is free. The only catch is you’ll need a Premium Strava subscription to use the Live Segments feature, but you’ll get a 60-day free trial with purchase of an ELEMNT.
