Selle Italia developed their latest Watt triathlon saddle to get 2x Ironman World Champ Patrick Lange over the bike leg fresher, so he could get to the finish line faster. The complete redesigned triathlon Watt is the latest new saddle to feature a shortened overall profile – just 250mm long – with a well-padded 50mm wide nose to support riders comfortably in a deep forward-leaning, aerodynamic position on the bike.
Developed with Lange and the other pro athletes on the BMC-Vifit Triathlon Team, Selle Italia says it is the culmination of years of R&D balancing pedaling efficiency with the greater comfort needed for extended solo triathlon efforts.

The race-specific saddle includes a full-length Superflow central cutout to relive pressure, surrounded by wide & flat-topped structured support from tip to tail. Grippy dots cover the entire top of the saddle, plus a High Grip anti-slip material at the nose to help keep your butt planted.
Even though the saddle is essentially flat across its entire top, the thick padding offers flat edges to prevent pressure points while pedaling in a single position for long periods of time.
The optimal point for sit bone support where the saddle reaches its full 133mm width sits near the back of the Watt’s profile. Selle Italia says this gives more usable overall length of the saddle with sidecut, so the rider can comfortably pedal more extended periods of time up and down its length.
The Watt features 10mm longer clamping areas of the rails than normal to allow a greater range of saddle fit adjustment – whether racing triathlon, time trials, or on the road. A small red/gray Rack Rubber Insert under the nose protects the saddle when hung on transition racks, while also keeping it from sliding when jostled by other competitors.

The new Watt saddle is available in just one size (U3), but two different constructions sharing the same shell and shape. The red-accented $280 / 250€ Watt Kit Carbon Superflow gets oval 7x9mm carbon rails for the absolute lightest weight (200g claimed) and greatest overall structure stiffness.
The gray-tipped $200 / 170€ Watt Gel Superflow with titanium rails shares the same profile, also adding an additional layer of gel padding in the nose for added comfort to soak up road buzz, without a major weight penalty (claimed 235g).
