BMX pro Dave Mirra has some bacteria doing tailwhips on his meninges, is on a course of antibiotics and is currently hospitalized.
ESPN reports that Mirra is checked in in the Greenville, NC, area and says sources close to him say he’s doing well after fighting off a big fever and could go home today after spending the weekend in the hospital. Doctors still need to run tests to determine the type of bacteria he was infected with.
Bacterial Meningitis is a bacterial infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. In 1995, Mirra underwent a splenectomy after injuring himself riding vert, which has increased his susceptibility to infection.
