Hunt Bike Wheels already has an extensive range of models to suit the varying needs and wants of most riders. But today, the brand is introducing four new wheelsets to meet the specific demands of modern gravel and adventure riding. These include the new Hunt 40 Limitless Gravel Adventure, 40 Limitless Gravel Adventure Dynamo, 4 Season Carbon Dura, and the Classified x Hunt 40 Carbon Gravel Race.

Let’s check them out.

The 40 Limitless Gravel Adventure wheels are made for bikepacking and ultra-endurance racing.

According to Hunt, the new 40 Limitless Gravel Adventure wheels are “purpose-built for ultra-endurance athletes tackling the world’s toughest bikepacking races.” Designed with input from Hunt’s ultra-endurance cyclists, these new wheels have already been tested and proven in various ultra-races. The primary goals were to create lightweight, aerodynamically efficient, and durable wheels to pair with modern gravel tires while going the distance. They are being sold with Hunt hubs, or you can upgrade to SON 28 Dynamo hubs to power your lights so you can crush miles all night long.

    • Works with tires 35 mm to 60 mm wide, aero-optimized for tires over 40 mm wide.
  • Front & Rear-specific rim shapes to maximize aero efficiency while minimizing material mass:
    • Front: 40mm Depth | 36mm External Rim Width | 27mm Internal Rim Width
    • Rear: 41mm Depth | 35mm External Rim Width | 26mm Internal Rim Width
  • Wider 4.5mm rim beads provide greater pinch flat protection than traditional rim beads
  • Durable Build: 24F/28R spoke count ensures a more even force distribution across the wheel, reducing strain on individual components. Hand-built with corrosion-resistant, high-strength brass nipples, double-sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service
  • Hubset:
    • Ratchet 48T DBL – Dual-sided ratchet system with 48-tooth drive delivers a quick 7.5-degree engagement angle in a simple, easy-to-service package, while requiring less material mass compared to pawl systems. 6061 aluminum alloy hub shell with extra-strong 7075-T6 alloy axle

Hunt 4 Season Carbon Dura

The 4-Season Carbon Dura wheels have a higher weight limit and are made specifically with durability in mind.

According to the brand, the 4-Season range “has served as Hunt’s solution for riders who demand maximum durability without compromising ride characteristics — light weight, responsiveness, and a wide rim profile for better grip.” As such, these all-season wheels are not only intended for adverse conditions, but they also boast Hunt’s highest system weight limit at 145 kg or 319 lbs. To achieve this, the “carbon layup has been completely re-worked and reinforced for additional fatigue and impact resistance, while still achieving low rotational weight for quicker response and better climbing performance.” These sound like more of an all-road wheelset and a great option for winter training rides on dirty roads and less-than-perfect surfaces.

Key Features and Specs

  • Specifically Tuned Carbon Lay-Up: Designed to maximize the strength and durability of the wheelset, the carbon layup has been completely re-worked for additional durability while still achieving a low wheelset weight
  • Rim Dimensions:
    • 40mm Depth | 30mm External Rim Width | 22mm Internal Rim Width
  • Works with tires 29 mm to 60 mm wide, optimized for 35 mm to 50 mm tires
  • Robust Build: 24F/28R spoke count to ensure more even force distribution across the wheel, reducing strain on individual components. Hand-built with brass nipples creating a wheelset ideal for bikepacking or rack set-ups, heavier riders (145kg /319 lbs system weight limit), and rough terrain where durability matters most. Triple butted J-bend spokes for a high strength-to-weight ratio and simple serviceability
  • Durable Build: 24F/28R spoke count ensures a more even force distribution across the wheel, reducing strain on individual components. Hand-built with corrosion-resistant, high-strength brass nipples, double-sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service
  • Hubset:
    • H_Ratchet 36T SGL – 10° engagement angle with greater load distribution across the ratchet teeth. The ratchet mechanism reduces shell material requirements compared to pawl systems, resulting in a lighter, more durable, and easily serviceable hub

This new wheelset combines the race-winning performance of the 40 Carbon Gravel Race wheels with Classified’s PowerShift rear hub shell. The lightweight, aero-optimized 40 mm deep carbon rims are now being made with H_Cyclo recyclable resin, so they can be repurposed at the end of their lifespan, and the 25 mm internal rim width pairs well with modern gravel race tires. The most exciting part of these wheels is the Classified PowerShift-ready hubs, allowing riders to install the PowerShift Kit to combine the benefits of a 1x drivetrain with the range of a 2x setup. It’s worth mentioning that riders will still need to purchase and install the PowerShift Kit.

Key Features and Specs

  • H_Cyclo Technology: Fully recyclable thermoset epoxy resin technology allows for the separation and re-use of both the carbon fiber material and resin components at end-of-life without creating waste solvents
  • Rim Dimensions:
    • 40mm Depth | 30mm External Rim Width | 25mm Internal Rim Width
  • Classified PowerShift Hub Ready: Offers unrivaled shift quality, high gearing range, and small steps between gears, combining the benefits of both 1x and 2x. This comes with a Classified Hubshell that is ready to be paired with the Classified PowerShift Kit
  • Durable Build: 24F/28R spoke count ensures a more even force distribution across the wheel, reducing strain on individual components. Hand-built with corrosion-resistant, high-strength brass nipples, double-sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service
  • Hubset:

Dura wheels are hooked which is good since I won’t buy hookless and I also like that they have brass nipples and 28 spokes in the rear. But the internal width of 22 mm is puzzling for today’s day and age they should be 25’s.

Having hooks at that narrow width makes me think they just bought someone else’s old molds. On top of being narrow, having hooks is definitely something I don’t want on a gravel wheel. It makes little sense when it’s not needed with big tires and low pressure. I’d rather have the impact strength of a hookless wheel with the small weight savings as icing on the cake.

All that marketing to gravel riders while going narrower than most people want for a new pair of road wheels.
