Introduced at NAHBS earlier this year as an unnamed, custom-only offering, the new Moots Rogue YBB 27.5″ mountain bike will now come in eight stock sizes.

It uses their YBB softtail design to take the edge off and was just announced on their website. But, we just happened to be at Moots’ Steamboat Springs, CO, headquarters yesterday and learned there’ll also be a Rogue RSL hardtail. Moots’ marketing man Jon Cariveau says it’ll mainly be for the European market. Look for all the official specs on that at Eurobike.

Also coming a Eurobike? The new Vamoots Disc road bike with, yep, disc brakes! We’ve got photos of the prototype frame they’re building up for photos and testing, along with the new Ultegra Di2 and hydraulic brakes they’re putting on it…

The upcoming Vamoots DR (Disc Road) will be a bit different than the Vamoots RSL. To support the additional stresses on the frame, the DR won’t use the slim 6/4 seatstays of the RSL. Instead, it’ll use a mono-stay top with thicker legs.

They monostay is a lot slimmer than that on the Psychlo-X ‘cross bike, and Cariveau says it’ll handle up to about 29c road tires.

It gets post-mount rear brake mounts, a big upgrade from the IS mount option on the current Psychlo-X. Hopefully this option makes its way across more of the bikes. Replaceable inserts avoid frame damage if one of the mounts gets stripped. Cariveau told us they’re going with the mount on the outside of the frame for now because their Breezer style dropouts make it difficult to run the brake mounts on the chainstay. That’s not to say it won’t ever make it to the inside of the frame, but they’re starting here.

The brake hose guides are enclosed, designed for hydraulic hoses, but you’ll have to disconnect one end of the brakes (and likely bleed) to install.

It’s running a 44mm headtube in anticipation of a tapered fork. Since Moots doesn’t offer their own disc fork (yet), they’ll be spec’ing the ENVE disc brake road fork for complete bikes.

I always hated this about Moots > “The brake hose guides are enclosed, designed for hydraulic hoses, but you’ll have to disconnect one end of the brakes (and likely bleed) to install.”

Enclosed guides a problem? You’d rather have zip ties or plastic clips? I don’t think an extra 15mins to disconnect and bleed is much of a negative on a high end build.

15 minutes. . .

Funny brakes say 785 on the back of the caliper so they are likely xt calipers. I don’t think a dura ace level will be one piece. The new xtr brakes are two piece but are made of magnesium.

There are nice split hose guides that could have been used instead… But that sure is a beautiful-looking frame from Moots (as usual(.

Enclosed guides are a pain in the @ss.

Why on earth would they not put a slotted one in.

Get rid ofthe closed guides already. I own a Moots and another brand with them as well and they are a pain. You deal with it when putting them on, but when it really hurts is wheen you need to fix another rear brake in a hurry but you can’t ride because quickly ripping the system off your Moots and swapping it over requires oening it up and bleeding it.

Moots has a ziptie guide option that you can request upon order. They have had that for years. I don’t swap brakes out often so the enclosed guides aren’t an issue for me, but understand why ziptie guides are preferred by others.
