While it’s not powered by an Arc Reactor, Stijl’s Iron Man 29er is trick enough to make Tony Stark proud.

Builder Hinmaton Hisler used a multi-step lug process in order to make use of steel tubes that were originally too short at the downtube. It was a happy accident that led to this really beautiful concept bike built for a customer that owns an iron foundry.

This is the first lugged bike from Hisler, so it was a learning process. Rather than risk getting the angles wrong, he went about it differently. He built the complete bike in steel first, sleeving the shorter, smaller tubes into a larger one, then cutting away the appropriate parts to slide the full length carbon tubes into place.

The tubing is Columbus Zona and Spirit with Dedaccaia stays and a headtube machined in house.

Rocker dropouts with a frame break for the belt drive.

The paint was a layered process to create a deep candy metallic finish that was simply gorgeous in person. All told, they have about $8,000 in the bike, with $2,300 of that in the frame.

Stijl’s otherb 29er frame is built entirely of road bike tubes and his own seat stay bridge and brake mounts.

I’m pretty sure Tony Stark wouldn’t put a Lefty on his bike.
