Redshift Sports is no stranger to producing clever bicycle products that find solutions to problems you didn’t know you even had. And today, they launch the new Mousetrap Pedal Adapters, which are no exception. The new Moustraps conveniently address a common, everyday cycling challenge. Without using any tools, the Moustraps easily convert SPD clipless pedals into flat pedals.

Let’s say you have guests over, or one of your kids wants to ride your bike, but it has little SPD clipless pedals, and there are no SPD shoes that fit. Just grab the Mousetraps, and in seconds, that bike becomes rideable with regular shoes. Problem solved.
How do They Work?
The Mousetrap adapters attach to existing SPD pedals, creating an 80 x 105mm platform that lets cyclists wear regular shoes for quick trips to the store, casual rides, or unexpected detours. That platform size is one of the key elements to the Mousetrap design. This is not the first clipless pedal adapter to make it easier to pedal in flat shoes. But this may be the first to offer such a large platform that can be easily installed and removed without tools. The solution eliminates the need to carry cycling shoes or struggle with sneakers on bare clipless pedals.
Like a regular cleat, slide the front pedal knub into the front of the SPD pedal. Then insert the back of the Mousetrap into the rear section and close the grey lever to lock it in. Boom, in seconds, you’re ready to roll.

Installing the Mousetraps is easy-peasy and requires no tools. The Mousetraps simply snap onto your fave SPD pedals by hand. The result provides secure retention that won’t accidentally release during use.
They’re only 10mm thick, and they sit within the clipless mechanism’s existing profile. That means riders don’t need to adjust seat height when using them, which is great.

Compact & Easy to Store
The Redshift Mousetraps use built-in magnets that keep them together during storage and transport. The two adapters simply snap together, making them a compact unit that fits easily in a jersey pocket, frame bag, or backpack.
The Mousetrap Pedal Adapters work with dual-sided SPD pedals (and likely some single sided SPD pedals as well). And depending on what kind of shoes you have on, this gives riders flexibility to use one or both sides, depending on their needs.
What did I think of the Mousetraps?

I thought the Mousetrap pedal adapters were really clever and easy to use. When I want to quickly run into town and don’t feel like taking my Clem Smith Jr. down, I grab the closest bike I can get my hands on.

More often than not, that’s my Salsa Blackthorn mountain bike. With the Mousetraps, I can grab ’em, install ’em, and in literal seconds, I am on my way to the store while wearing regular shoes.

They have a claimed weight of 176g per pair, but mine came out a little under that, at 173g. That’s pretty light and makes them almost undetectable when stored in a pocket or pack.

In Conclusion
I think the Redshift Mousetrap adapters offer a very practical solution for cyclists who want to use their primary bike for all kinds of various activities where they don’t want/need to be clipped in.
With these handy lil’ problem solvers, you don’t have to deal with the very real hassle of pedal swaps or carrying multiple pairs of shoes.
The Mousetraps are a relatively low-cost, quality product. Speaking of price, I would have actually liked to see the price come in a little closer to the $39.99 relm.

But, they’re still cheaper than a quality platform pedal and way less hassle than swapping pedals. And, you have to put some value in the ease of use and simplicity of the installation.
They expand the versatility of clipless pedal-equipped bikes for everyday use while maintaining the option to clip in when desired. They seem very well thought out, which isn’t surprising coming from Redshift, but they seem very durable as well.
I’ve been using mine for a little over a month, and I find that they will, more than likely, last for several years.
If the Mousetrap SPD Pedal Adapters seem like something that’d be useful for you, I would not hesitate to recommend you get a pair. And if you’re into these, you’d be into a lot of stuff that Redshift has to offer, so hit the link below to peruse their site.
