Salsa’s popular gravel bike handlebars, the Cowbell Carbon and much wider Cowchipper Carbon, are being recalled for a potential breaking hazard. They say the bars could crack and break where the brake levers clamp on to them, creating a fall and/or crash hazard.

The recalled bars were sold as aftermarket parts and also installed on some 2019 through 2021 Salsa Cutthroat, Warbird, and Warroad bikes, some of those being sold in 2018. Affected handlebars have the model name located on the front of hte handlebar on the non-drive side area adjacent to the stem clamp (next to the “Salsa Cycles” text, so it may be under your bar tape)

Full details are on their website along with contact info, definitely check to see if your bike is affected, but also contact Salsa to check if your aftermarket bar is part of the recall, too. If you have one of these bars, stop riding it now and take it to your local Salsa dealer for a free replacement in your choice of carbon or alloy.

This is the same recall issued in October for the Whisky bars. I contacted Q back then to figure out what to do, and they told me to get ahold of my dealer (I bought them through Jenson). I’m still trying to get things figured out with Jenson. Nothing has been resolved yet. I’m guessing they won’t be helping replace my bar tape too.

Unfortunately when you buy online the level of customer service isn’t the same as when you spend the premium locally. The extra money gets you that support. I’ve had to warranty products for customers that bought them at Jenson which takes my time and has a cost; but then they hopefully will support my shop. It’s a tough situation for consumers to justify the extra money, but it is worth it.

I should clarify: some online shops have AMAZING customer service.

From what comments I’ve read, there’s plenty of people who bought through shops and they haven’t received any sort of replacement either. It sounds like it’s also a Q issue to me.

Ah, this explains why I can’t find any No.9 12F bars in stock anywhere!

According to my emails from my shop and Q the replacement bars should be in stock this month, but that was several months ago so I’m not sure that’s still accurate
