Only available as a frameset, this limited edition Salsa Fargo Ti comes with a Cane Creek headset and their full carbon Firestarter bikepacking fork.

Designed as a do-it-all bike, you can use it for fully loaded touring or gravel racing. There are mounting points all over it, including two sets of three on each leg of the fork. All cable routing is external to keep setup and maintenance simple.

The new Firestarter 110 Deluxe fork is made with hi-mod fibers and has a tapered steerer tube. It’s disc brake only, designed for 15mm thru axles and comes with 15×110 Boost spacing…including dynamo hubs thanks to internal wire routing. Axle to crown height is 483mm, and it’s ready for anything all the way up to 29×3.0 tires. Claimed weight is under 700g.

The frame itself carries over unchanged, only the fork is new for 2019. So you’re still getting their 3/2.5 ti tubing with threaded bottom bracket…

  1. Salsa/QPB made a mistake when they released this bike last year (I bought one), boosting the rear to 148, but leaving the carbon front fork at 100mm. So you had to purchase a mismatched wheelset, or use alternator reducers for the rear (which weren’t available for several months after initial release). Now they finally got around to boosting the fork, but they also boosted the price by $300?! Poor form Salsa. Poor form.

      • If you are buying a Fargo Ti frameset you are most likely building wheels (with a dynamo front) and so “mismatched” wheels is not a problem.

    • The price is the same. You may have gotten a deal, but they retailed at $2799. Also, this one comes with a headset. When these came out there was not a boost dynamo on the market. Even today, the shutter precision boost hubs are the least reliable product they have released. SON is your only real option at this point.

      • Nope – the frame and fork from a Salsa dealer last May was $2499. (Even check BRumors old article). It came with a Cane Creek 40 headset too. But having to buy separate wheels was a bummer and eventually a deal breaker (Well, for me at least – I can’t build wheels, it’s an art). No problem, I sold it for the same 2500 I paid for it. I just couldn’t build it up without the alternator reducers which didn’t get released till several months later. It was either that or buy a boosted rear wheel separately. I’m not seeing anything much different between this Ti Fargo and last year’s model. 10mm more in the fork spacing, a few extra bolts on the legs and a tube to run some wires. 300 additional bones for that? This is the Fargo QBP should have released last year – Boosted front-to-back. That’s how everyone does it, because it makes sense…

  2. I’m so happy to see that they, finally, made the fork dyno friendly. The one I’ve got on my wifes bike required all sorts of weird adaptations to make a Plug USB charger work. Very odd mounting a Plug on the handlebars. Would love one of these Ti Fargos…. especially with the ability to run 29+ and singlespeed (without sliders… hurray!).

    • I think you’re still going to need to go thru some gyrations to make a Plug work in the new fork. The dyno friendly part is the internal channel to get wiring from the hub up to the fork crown where there’s now a threaded boss to run a headlight. I went with an externally mounted Sinewave charging circuit on my Fargo and it’s worked well for me, although it’s not quite as clean as The Plug from a wiring perspective.

    • You still have to mount the plug to the handlebars. The Dynamo wiring is a sleeve from the inside of the fork leg to the front of the fork crown. It won’t allow wiring up through the steerer tube. It is the same as the Cutthroat fork but boost.

      Don’t forget the other person will be pissed off when he discovered that these small cracks in the carbon fork abruptly ends his touring adventure. Deep down in the wilderness.
      In a way it’s a gift because one will meet oneself.

      Do Salse offer forks in other materials? Next year maybe!

      A very nice frame, but steel are strongly underrated.
      Take a look at Thorn bicycles, they’re built to last forever, especially after several years.
