Julian Dean was interviewed as saying his New Year’s Resolution is to win a Tour de France stage.

That’s a pretty specific goal, and something that has a lot to do with what the other riders think about it…but from a marketing perspective, it’s sheer brilliance.  A member of the Garmin-Slipstream team, no doubt he and they will be promoting it come July.  I can see Phil Liggett now, hamming it up with Bob Roll about how this guy made a resolution to win a stage, camera covering him to see if he pulls it off…bloody brilliant.

Here’s hoping he does it.  His strengths are sprints and leadouts, so he’s used to being in the front of the field, but usually working for a teammate.  Maybe this year, they’ll give him a little love.

I’d much rather see Garmin working to put vandevelde on the podium..
