Much like Stephen Hyde did for the men’s elite field, Katie Compton made everyone else race for second. She owned the event, taking her 13th USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championship and earning yet again her nickname of Katie F’n Compton. Check out her winning Trek Boone which, thanks to not being part of a factory team, gets plenty of 3rd party sponsor bits and a few very unique touches…

Owning it. IT’s hard to tell from under the mud and ice, but it looks like KFC could have been riding a new Boone with a front Isospeed decoupler similar to that on the new Domane.

Knight Composites provides the wheels and reversed the decal colors from one side to the next. Competitors don’t know if she’s coming or going until it’s too late. Additionally, it looks like the Boone may be finally getting thru axles out back, as well as Flat mount disc brakes.

The DT Swiss hubs even get color-matched decals.

A Clement PDX tubular up front and a BOS tubular out back kept her steady on the snow-over-frozen ground that saw a bit of melt during the race. Note the mix of mud and snow pack on the frame throughout these pics…they were challenging conditions to say the least.

Shrink wrap on the rear brake hose kept the Di2 wire safe. From behind, the lines of the cap hiding what’s likely the Isospeed internals are more visible. Will we see this hit production for 2017?

Not yet, but it is a very clear indicator of what Trek will release around August 2017 (for the 2018 season). Biggest changes being the front IsoSpeed and rear thru-axles.

FWIW, the original Boones were released in ~May of 2014 after debuting at 2013/14 races.

Looks like the Boone may be getting a front IsoSpeed update!

Husband Mark Legg is an awesome mechanic, I have seen her bikes in person and they are dialed. gold wire for cable tie is uhhhh appropriate. We watched every minute of the race, boring as usual as she once again smashed and utterly obliterated the other women. Hoping for a heavy course in Luxembourg so she has a shot at the podium.

He glued her front tire on backwards.

From CX Magazine (https://www.cxmagazine.com/katie-compton-trek-boone-2017-national-championships-thru-hydraulic-isospeed):

Judging by our start line video, the PDX was a popular front tire choice, but Compton was the only one to orient the tread to have the “arrows” pointing backwards, citing better grip on off-cambers.

Is the fully wound bartape covering a Thomson bar and not Bontrager?

Bontrager from what I saw on another site, if you notice Thomson pulled her bars and renamed them cx bar

I read they shrink wrapped DI2 together with brake line on other bike checks to prevent it getting snagged

Electronic Dura ace, through axles in the rear and isospeed decoupler headtube. Customer chosen components to mix her specific riding needs. Fun.

TREK pays the best rider the most money, and then tell the consumer they need these new “innovations”.

SRAM front derailleur band… hmmm

Yeah, that caught my attention and seems odd.

Maybe they are going to band mount instead of braze-on for a cleaner look when they run a 1X setup?

Do not think that is SRAM band on front. Looks like a hinge style that uses single bolt. It looks sharp! Now I want one – who makes that thing??? Give up your some of your secrets Mark – please

I’d say the reason for a band mount is that it’s easy to run any size outer ring without the “braze-on” mount causing grief by being in the wrong place.

I guess most people here aren’t old enough to remember, but *all* bikes used to have clamp on FDs and braze-on mounts were exotic for a long time.

It would be silly to think Trek wont release the new 2018 Boone before sept. Why have a new
Boone not come out in June or July. People will want the bike for the 2017 CX season,

2017 Boone Disc is already starting to sell out in 50, 52, 54, and 61 and from what i was told they r not releasing any 2017 once sold out…

I bet we see 2018 Boone by June

I have ordered a new RSL Boone frameset today (same paintjob as this one). I am supposed to get it in the middle of October.
