Teaming up again to drop some new outdoor gear, cycling’s Specialized and Swedish hiking experts, Fjällräven (pronounced (fyel-ray-vn) are at it again. This collab seems to target closer-to-home adventures.

Pieces in the collection are focusing on motion, hybrid functionality, and reliability. In hopes of optimizing both the riding and camping experience by being “comfortable and fun to use on all Spring and Summer bikepacking adventures”.

In the next 27 years or so, it’s said that two-thirds of the Earth’s population will be living in cities and towns. Lately, it seems that we’ve all been pushing to shift our priorities toward a better work/life balance. We are working to cultivate better physical and mental health as a whole, as well as working to improve the health of our planet. So it seems more important than ever to reconnect with nature.

Into the Great Nearby sends the message that adventure doesn’t have to be some elaborately planned event. Nature is everywhere. It could be at the end of a train ride, on the edge of town, around the corner, or right in your own backyard.

Ok, on to some highlights of the collection.

S/F Expandable Hip Pack

Here’s some hybrid functionality for you. For those of you that prefer a compact hip pack but could use the extra space of a backpack every once in a while. With the S/F Expandable Hip Pack, you don’t have to bring both. The pack expands from a 4.5-liter capacity to a whopping 11.5 liters.

Specs:

Colors: Ochre 160, Black 550, Green 620

  • Material: Vinylon F: 100% Vinylal

S/F Sleep Poncho

We all know that most cold nights around camp turn into cold mornings around camp. With the S/F Sleep Poncho combining both a sleeping quilt and a poncho, you should remain good and toasty during either.

This lightweight quilt doubles as an insulating poncho, eliminating the need to pack an insulating jacket on your next adventure. It’s equipped with a draft collar and a hand-warming kangaroo pocket in the front. You can even combine two Sleep Ponchos together for the ultimate snug session.

S/F Sun Shirt

Designed to offer the user shade and ventilation, the Sun Shirt has been optimized for riding during warmer days. The collar even offers protection from the sun. The lower back of the Sun Shirt is equipped with a zippered pocket.

The shirt combines on-bike functionality with off-bike style and is said to ventilate extremely well while keeping skin in the shade. It is cut for a regular fit with a slightly pre-bent sleeve insert and articulated elbow.

S_F Gear Vest hero shot

Providing easy access storage whether on or off the bike, the Handlebar Rolltop is also lightweight and waterproof. It has 13 liters of volume that can be “overpacked to hold more”. The Hypalon details on the front can be used as extra attachment points.

You can “firm up” the rolltop by using its included compression straps. It also opens upward in a “rider-friendly” way. When off of the bike it can be worn as a shoulder/cross-body bag.

S/F Rain Poncho

Keeping you dry while both on and off the bike can be important, and this fully waterproof, unisex poncho will provide performance and comfort while doing just that. The hood on the poncho is designed to be optimized for helmets.

It also uses taped seams and reflective details on the sleeves and the back. It’s got a longer cut at the back for on-bike seating comfort. The extended cuffs cover the rider’s hands and the inner chest band keeps the bulk from hanging down and catching unwanted wind while in the riding position.

  • Membrane:100% polyurethane

spesh seems too cool for school these days. the sea otter pits were kinda awkward with how much they stood out and you could walk into their show area and though there were a ton of employees, no one would say hi. kinda weird.

Probably because that’s a huge market for this stuff I have no interest but it’s an understandable tactic

What Pannier is that on the front? Its looks just like the CoolCave pannier, but about half the height. Its not listed as new item, but Specialized does list an 8l dry bag as opposed to the 20l that fits in the CoolCave.

Unless you’re on an e-bike, riding in cold weather, or going at a snail’s pace, I don’t see how you can wear that poncho without sweating out in minutes.

That was my first impression. I would be drowning in sweat riding my motorcycle in half this stuff let alone riding bicycles in it.

Not sure who the intended audience is since this would also be out of place as casual west.

That convertible hip pack is pretty neat. Not a hip pack guy myself but I could see it being very useful for other folks. I’d imagine the target audience hews more toward the MTB crowd.

The only thing that ruins the certain items in this collection is the large logos on some items- not cool at all. It’s a complete turnoff. Products are for the end user, not a billboard for the manufacturer. Otherwise, I appreciate the courage to meld bikepacking function with casual flair. I’m curious about the rain poncho as I’ve seen many commuters in SE asia riding to work with a similar style.

You ever wonder if the models in some of these photo shoots ever laugh internally at the stupidity of the clothing they’re getting paid to wear?
