Before we could even get a post up on it, the new Tailfin AeroPack slipped way, waaaay past its Kickstarter funding goal. The design is a followup to their bow-shaped carbon fiber rear rack introduced in 2016 and adds a top bag to keep your cargo sitting in your draft. After all, if you’re packing enough for a really long ride, you’re probably wishing you could take your fastest bike. Now you can…

One of the standout features of the design is its versatility. There are versions to fit virtually any rear axle standard, and options for road, gravel, commuter, mountain bikes and fat bikes. Even full suspension bikes thanks to a rotating hinge design. Because it attaches low enough on the seatpost, it works with (at least partially, in most cases) with dropper posts.

On top of that versatility, three versions are offered: Carbon, Alloy and Trunk. The first two include an integrated rack with stiff spine running along the bottom of the bag. Both are a single unit, keeping the bag and rack together, creating a solid, wiggle and wobble-free way to move your goods. For gravel riders and off-road touring, this can be a Godsend.

Just replace your rear skewer or axle with the supplied part and the rack quickly and easily clips onto it.

You can even stack another bag on top of it and use the included straps to secure it. This keeps more of your cargo behind your body, out of the wind. The included 20L bag, which is available separately and fits on their original rack to combine with panniers for additional storage, uses a roll-top design and waterproof materials.

The AeroPack Trunk will retail for $199 (£149 / €169) on it’s own. The AeroPack Carbon will retail for $449 (£339 / €385) and weighs in at 600g. The AeroPack Alloy weighs a bit more at 780g and comes in at $369 (£279 / €315). Max load for the integrated units is 12kg (26.45lb). All versions are available with early bird deals offering substantial discounts and bundled package deals on their Kickstarter campaign.

Ingenious design, and much more stable than a bikepacking-size seat bag, but at adds a lot of weight. It could be the weight includes the thru axle/QR, because they show it pictured together with the rack.

They cater for axel types. And you can buy multiple for your different bikes

After watching the Ben Davies video I’m sold too. Larger capacity than any seat pack or trunk pack, and definitely lighter than a trunk pack + seat rack combo. This would be ideal for self supported racers and bikepackers. Perfect for Tour Divide riders. My only question is durability. Would love to see a review by bikepacking.com.

I use a 2002 Fuji professional as a commuter bike, there are tons of old early 00’s race bikes you can get for dirt cheap hence good commuters. This would solve the biggest issue (outside of tire clearance) for me which is the need to carry a backpack and get all sweaty

Should add some threads in the main fork to be able to attach bottles/cargo cages to give extra configuration options if they want to target the bikepacking market.

One of the best engineered pannier solutions on the market. I love the quality of ride you get from having lightweight but incredibly sturdy solution. I am looking forward to getting the Aeropack to go with my existing rack and bag. The market they aim for is fast and light. If you are after more capacity heavier loads then this is not the product for you.
There are no other solutions on the market that can turn a carbon race machine into weekend trip machine/ credit card tourer.

There are already several seatbag options on the market that don’t sway with use such as the Bedrock Bags Coconino/Black Dragon or Porcelain Rocket Mr. Fusion. If you were to crash using this setup the entire thing would break which is why racks are rarely used for singletrack touring anymore. Best part is they are far cheaper and manufactured in the U.S. Maybe this design is ok for road use, but definitely a terrible idea for real world off-road, bad dirt road (tour divide), or singletrack use.
